Hanabi's parents were always busy
running their tea shop, so she didn't spend much time with them. When
she was old enough they sent her to a small, dilapidated boarding
school with about 30 students. She didn't mind so much though,
especially because the school had many places to sneak out of. She
liked to slip away into the woods at night to think under the stars.
She thought about the Princess on the moon, an how lonely she must
feel. Every night she sang a lullaby to the moon, and asked the stars
to watch over the princess, then went to greet the sun with a
smile.

One year, in an attempt to get more funding, the school
decided to have a winter arts showcase. All of the students had to
participate. For three weeks students worked on their projects. Many
painted or drew, a few got together to choreograph a dance, and one
little filly, who was very quiet and shy, surprised everyone by
deciding to sing. Hanabi didn't know what to do. She wanted to be
different from the others with her project, but she couldn't pick out
just how. She watched the others, seeing their moves, memorizing
words, paintings, and dancing parts, trying to get an idea of her
own. The weeks went by and her teacher, Ms. BookWell, said that if
she didn't make something she would be excluded. She threw together
some splatters and glitter on a canvas, resembling the night sky she
loved so much, and turned it in. It wasn't what she wanted, and she
was sad she had wasted so much time.

On the night of the
showcase everypony was bustling, helping parents (and benefactors) to
their seats, organizing the stage and getting things squared away.
The students waited in the wings; the canvases were in the back room.
20 minuets 'til showtime Ms. BookWell gathered everypony for a final
roll call. "Wait where's Twist Hoof??! He's the lead dancer!"
she cried, clearly thrown by his absence. Just then there was a
clattering from the back room. "Ugghh, I don't have time for
something like this! Hanabi, go and see what that was!!! Ms. BookWell
ran off to go check that sound preparations were finished. Hanabi
went into the back room and saw Twist Hoof shaking in the middle of
the floor, eyes wide. There were cans of black paint scattered all
over the floor, a shelf was overturned, and the canvases had big
black splotches all over them. "I didn't mean to!!! I was just
reaching for my dance shoes and then, oww!!" he exclaimed as he
tried to stand. His hoof was swollen already. "It was an
accident!" The other students, curious, came in, then recoiled
at the travesty. Cries of " the show is ruined, and My work!!"
rang out. Ms. BookWell returned and poked her head in only to faint
at the sight. "The announcer called "five minuets until
showtime!" The audience was quieting down in the background.
"WHAT Are we going to DO???"

Hanabi surveyed the
scene again. The paint was still wet. She grabbed a tin of glitter
and sprinkled it across each of the paintings. "Now what's
happening!" Somepony called. Hanabi kept working until all of
the paintings were adjusted. "Help me arrange these all together
on the back wall of the stage." Having no better ideas the other
students did as she asked. The wall was covered. "Now since
Twist Hoof can't dance, does anypony else know his part?"
Everypony just looked at eachother. "your the only one who saw
him dance" one colt said. "Me? Asked Hanabi. She thought a
moment, and realized he was right, she knew the steps.

"Two
minuets" the stage manager called in. "Okay, I guess we
have no choice, I'll do it." Everyone filed back into the wings,
getting into order. The curtain opened and gasps rang out as audience
stared in awe at the back drop. It was like a dozen different pieces
all tied together with patches of a shining night sky. Beautiful. The
rest of the dancers nearly missed the first cue because they were
staring, but Hanabi took the first step with ease. She was surprised
at how she remembered the whole dance, including position changes,
and was actually able to do them. They twirled and sauntered about
the the tune and when the song ended applauds rang out. whew, at
least that was over. They filed off stage and took a moment to notice
how strong the cheering was, they just might pull this thing off if
the next act went well. Wait, where was the next act?

Hanabi
looked around, but couldn't see the filly who was supposed to sing
next. She heard a whimper in the far corner and went over. The filly
was crying, terrified. "I can't go out, everything else had
problems, I'll mess up! I just can't" she cried. Her name was
announced over the mic. "Your on, come with me" Hanabi
grabbed her hand and helped her to the stage, then disappeared behind
a curtain. The filly just stood frozen, all eyes on her. The music
started. She stood, petrified. She couldn't move her lips, her eyes
filled with tears again and she was about to burst out crying, but
then another voice sang the first note and she realized that she was
no longer alone. Hanabi was next to her. *She sounds so pretty* she
thought, and she did. It was like a trance. Hanabi touched the
filly's shoulder, jerking her back to reality, then the filly opened
her mouth and sang, all fear melting away. She wasn't alone anymore,
and the song was even lovelier as a duet. The last decrescendo ended
and she took a bow. Huh, that wasn't so bad. Hanabi looked ant her
and smiled. The rest of the students and the now awake, and slightly
dazed, Ms. BookWell filed out for a final bow. An older stallion from
the audience, clearly a benefactor, came up to the mic.
"Congragulations on such an amazing set of performances!"
he said. The student looked at each other, was he serious? Everything
that could possibly have gone wrong did. "Who's fantastic idea
was it to do the backdrop like that?" Everypony trurned towards
Hanabi. She blinked. "I didn't do anything."

"DIDN'T
DO ANYTHING??!!! You saved the show!!! ...and likely my job... "
Ms. BookWell blushed. The benefactor looked puzzled. "Saved?"
A couple colts and a filly laid out the story, with everything that
had happened and how Hanabi was the only one calm and talented enough
to fix everything. Hanabi blushed and shied away, "I really
didn't do anything, really! I didn't even have a real piece for
tonight!"
"Seems Princess Celestia thought it was
special," somepony said, "look at your flank." She
did, there was a swirly angelic heart with stars around it there. Her
cutie mark. It was an incredible evening, celebrating the school's
new funding, and the sucess of the show. Hanabi refused to take
credit, and remained that way the whole time.

That night, as
usual, she crept off to her clearing in the woods and looked at the
stars and moon. She looked over her cutie mark, wondering how a
glittery mess, a dance and a lullaby could earn her something like
that. She fell asleep looking at the sky, then was awakened by a
twinkling. She opened her eyes, but saw nothing. She glanced around
and caught her reflection in a puddle. There were stars in her mane.
Hanabi was shocked; they were beautiful. Her immediate thought was of
Princess Luna. She looked at the moon and sang her lullaby, her mane
twingling with the notes, then smiled and went to greet the sun. She
was convinced, both princesses had given her an amazing gift that
night, and she could never repay them enough! ^^

Nowadays
Hanabi has her own dance/ arts studio on the edge of the woods. Her
mane glows with stars in the moonlight and her cutie mark shines in
the day. She still sings lullabies to the sky, even after the return
of Luna, and greets the sun each morning. (before napping 'til noon I
guess! lol)

Hope you liked this! (and that you don't mind me
making you read so much!) Thanks! <3

I made a Journal entry of this, but my friend suggested that I upload it as literature too, so here it is. Hanabi's back story. :)

This is no where near my best writing and I did it late at night, so it's not so great, but I hope you like it well enough. ^^ It probably sounds way to super-happy magical though. Like I said, late at night! Just thought she needed a story, I may edit it later.

Enjoy (?) ^^
